Giant Black Schnauzers, the home of Giants in New Zealand. Our aim is to produce quality dogs with an excellent temperament. Our dogs are versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes: Show, obedience, agility, watchdog, and as your family's best friend. Please peruse our site and enjoy the giants.

Both Pete and I have had dogs all our lives Pete, German Shepherds and Jude everything from mixed breeds to a Great Dane down to a Tibetan Spaniel. Life without dogs is hard to imagine.

Whilst holidaying in Australia I saw a standard Schanuzer and fell in love with the breed. We had been talking about breeding but had not decided on a breed. The standard was that much too small for us so, the hunt for a giant was on. 18 months and several trips across the ditch were spent investigating different kennels in Australia, finally deciding on the Awun Kennels, just out of Melbourne. 
The wait for our first giant had begin and nearly four years after my first sighing of a Schnauzer there I was at Auckland airport with a beautiful black teddy in my arms. Rommel aka Awun Travelling Man had arrived. Over the many years we have been breeding we have scourced our giants from several kennels and now have 8 giants. Both breeding stock and retired dogs.

We with our Shcnauzers live at Spring Grove Farm Park in the stunning Pohangina Valley 35 minutes from Palmerston North. The dogs are housed in kennels made of the local river stone, warm in winter and cool in the summer months.

Our dogs are part of the family, spending most of their days inside or around the house. We believe that “prevention is better than cure???and we feed a variety of nourishing food, with the emphasis on home cooked balanced meals for the dogs.
